New scan method could cut radiation and hospital visits for parathyroid patients

This study tested a new way to plan surgery for patients with overactive parathyroid glands, a condition that causes high calcium levels. If the ultrasound gave a clear picture, patients could go straight to surgery, avoiding a second scan that uses radiation.
