Scientists use sound waves to unlock brain barrier for child cancer treatment

NCT ID NCT05762419

Summary

This early-stage study is testing whether a non-invasive focused ultrasound device can safely and temporarily open the protective blood-brain barrier in children with progressive diffuse midline glioma, a severe brain tumor. The goal is to allow more of an oral chemotherapy drug (etoposide) to reach the tumor while potentially reducing side effects. The study will enroll about 10 children and young adults (ages 4-21) to see if this combined approach is feasible.
