Do Ultra-Marathons open a 'Sickness Window' for runners?
NCT ID NCT06089174
Summary
This study investigated whether people who run extreme long-distance races get sick more often in the weeks after the race. Researchers compared 471 runners in a major ultramarathon event to their non-running companions who lived with them. They tracked symptoms like colds, sore throats, and fatigue for 21 days after the race to see if the intense exercise made runners more vulnerable to infections.
