NCT ID NCT05358171
First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 30 times
Summary
This study looked at how eating ultra-processed foods (like packaged snacks and sugary drinks) affects gut bacteria and blood sugar control in adults aged 45 to 65. Twenty healthy but sedentary participants ate either a high or low ultra-processed diet for six weeks. Researchers measured insulin sensitivity and 24-hour glucose levels to see if these foods harm blood sugar regulation, possibly leading to type 2 diabetes.
