New drug trial aims to save insulin cells in type 1 diabetes

NCT ID NCT07258394

Summary

This study is testing whether an oral medication called dimethyl fumarate can help protect the body's remaining insulin-producing cells in adults recently diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. Researchers will compare the drug to a placebo in 90 participants over 24 weeks to see if it slows the disease's progression. The main goal is to see if patients can maintain more of their own natural insulin production, which could reduce their dependence on injected insulin.
