Surgery bleeding drug may also fight infections
NCT ID NCT04192435
Summary
This large international study tested whether tranexamic acid (TxA), a drug commonly used to reduce bleeding during surgery, could also help prevent wound infections and other complications after major gastrointestinal operations. It involved 3,300 adult patients at higher risk for problems, such as those over 70 or with conditions like diabetes or heart disease. Patients were randomly given either TxA or a placebo during their surgery to see which group had fewer infections and better recovery.
