New transplant strategy aims to boost Cancer-Fighting power

NCT ID NCT03032783

Summary

This study tested a modified two-step stem cell transplant for adults with high-risk blood cancers. Doctors used radiation and chemotherapy to wipe out the patient's diseased bone marrow and immune system, then gave donor stem cells to rebuild it. The goal was to strengthen the new immune system's ability to attack any remaining cancer cells while trying to limit serious side effects.
