No tubes, faster healing? new trial tests lighter anesthesia for lung surgery
NCT ID NCT07409129
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study compares a 'tubeless' approach to standard care for people having minimally invasive surgery to remove small lung nodules. The tubeless group gets a laryngeal mask instead of a breathing tube and no chest drain after surgery. The goal is to see if they recover better within 24 hours, with less pain and fewer complications. About 138 adults will take part.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
laryngeal mask airway, thoracic paravertebral block with local anesthetic (e.g., ropivacaine), non-intubated anesthesia
What this could lead to
If it works, this could show that avoiding breathing tubes and chest drains helps people recover faster and more comfortably after lung nodule surgery.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial at one hospital, so results may not apply to everyone. There is a risk of breathing problems or air leaks without the usual tubes.
