Blood sugar + fat test spots hidden heart risk

NCT ID NCT07261514

First seen Jan 11, 2026 · Last updated Jun 07, 2026 · Updated 24 times

Summary

This study looked at 674 people who had a severe type of heart attack (STEMI) and were treated with a procedure to open blocked arteries. Researchers checked if a simple blood test called the triglyceride glucose (TyG) index could predict how much heart muscle was damaged, as seen on MRI scans. They found that a higher TyG index was linked to more heart damage and a higher risk of future heart problems, suggesting this test could help doctors identify patients who need closer follow-up.
