New gel could scratch the itch from cancer treatment

NCT ID NCT06748404

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jul 01, 2026 · Updated 2 times

Summary

This phase 2 trial tests whether TriCalm Hydrogel, an over-the-counter gel, can reduce itching caused by immune checkpoint inhibitors used in cancer therapy. About 28 adults with grade 1-3 itch will use either the gel or a standard steroid cream for one cycle. The study measures how well the gel controls itch and improves quality of life.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

TriCalm Hydrogel (aluminum acetate 0.2% and strontium chloride hexahydrate)

What this could lead to

If it works, this could offer a non-steroid option to relieve itching from immunotherapy, improving comfort and quality of life for cancer patients.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-phase trial with only 28 people, so results may not apply to everyone. It's testing symptom relief, not a cure, and the gel may not work better than standard steroid cream.
