Extreme triathlon pushes hearts to the limit: scientists investigate hidden dangers
NCT ID NCT03972865
Summary
This study aimed to understand if extreme endurance exercise, like a long-distance triathlon, causes temporary heart damage and increases the risk of dangerous irregular heartbeats. Researchers followed 72 healthy male triathletes during the Embrun triathlon, checking their heart function before and after the race. They used heart monitors and ultrasounds to see if changes in the right side of the heart were linked to extra heartbeats after the intense physical stress.
