First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests a culturally adapted psychotherapy for refugees and asylum seekers with complex post-traumatic stress disorder (CPTSD). The therapy combines emotion regulation training with narrative exposure therapy over 24 sessions. Researchers aim to see if this approach reduces CPTSD symptoms, depression, and anxiety in 288 participants across Switzerland and Germany.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Culturally adapted psychotherapy combining emotion regulation training and narrative exposure therapy
What this could lead to
If successful, this could provide an effective, culturally sensitive treatment option for complex PTSD in refugee populations, improving mental health and integration.
What could go wrong
This is a relatively small trial (288 participants) testing a therapy not yet proven in this group. Results may not apply to all refugee communities, and therapy adherence or cultural differences could affect outcomes.
