Fruits and veggies may shield kidneys and heart in chronic disease
NCT ID NCT06545461
First seen Jun 13, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 13, 2026
Summary
This study looked at 108 people with early chronic kidney disease, high blood pressure, and a condition called metabolic acidosis (too much acid in the blood). Researchers compared eating more fruits and vegetables versus taking sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) pills to see if either could slow kidney damage and lower heart disease risk. The goal was to find a simple, natural way to help people keep their kidneys working longer and avoid needing dialysis or a transplant.
