Writing through trauma: new approach aims to cut HIV risk for vulnerable women

NCT ID NCT05192434

Summary

This study is testing a program called TIARAS that combines two approaches to help women who inject drugs reduce their risk of getting HIV. For 3 months, participants get small rewards for taking their HIV prevention pills (PrEP) and staying off drugs, while also doing writing exercises—some about past trauma, some about neutral topics. Researchers are following 219 women for a year to see if this combination helps them stick with PrEP longer and make safer choices, ultimately preventing new HIV infections in a high-risk group.
