Scientists probe hidden gut changes after organ transplants
NCT ID NCT02234349
Summary
This study aimed to understand why some type 1 diabetes patients who receive a combined pancreas and kidney transplant still have blood sugar issues. Researchers measured changes in gut chemicals (bile acids), gut bacteria, and hormone levels in 50 transplant patients one year after surgery. The goal was to gather knowledge, not to test a new treatment, by comparing these patients to those who received only a kidney transplant and to healthy individuals.
