ICU sensor errors may skew critical care decisions
NCT ID NCT07330505
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jul 08, 2026 · Updated 3 times
Summary
This study will check how often the sensors used to measure blood pressure in intensive care patients are not positioned correctly. Such errors can lead to wrong readings and possibly inappropriate treatments. Researchers will observe 60 adult ICU patients on ventilators and vasopressors, recording sensor alignment and any treatment changes over 8 hours.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this study could reveal how common sensor misalignment is and help improve accuracy of ICU monitoring, potentially leading to better treatment decisions.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early observational study (60 patients) that only measures errors—it does not test any treatment. Results may not apply to all ICUs or change practice directly.
