NCT ID NCT04233749

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026

Summary

This small phase 2 trial is testing whether tranexamic acid, a drug used to reduce bleeding, can lighten dark patches on the skin caused by lichen planus pigmentosus and erythema dyschromicum perstans. Five adults will take the drug twice daily for six months. Researchers will measure changes in pigmentation using special light devices.

Active substance

tranexamic acid tablets

What this could lead to

If it works, this could offer a new treatment option for stubborn skin darkening conditions that currently have no effective therapy.

What could go wrong

This is a very small early-phase trial with only 5 participants, so results may not apply widely. Tranexamic acid also carries a risk of blood clots.
