First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tested whether taking tranexamic acid pills before and after breast implant surgery reduces the amount of fluid drained from the surgical site. Forty women undergoing primary breast augmentation participated. The goal was to see if this common anti-bleeding drug could lead to less swelling and faster drain removal.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

tranexamic acid

What this could lead to

If it works, this could mean less fluid buildup, less bruising, and a quicker recovery after breast augmentation surgery.

What could go wrong

This is a small, completed study with only 40 participants. The results may not apply to everyone, and there is a small risk of blood clots with tranexamic acid.
