Local birth helpers trained to fight depression in expectant mothers

NCT ID NCT03378544

Summary

This study tested whether training traditional birth attendants to provide basic mental health support could reduce depression in pregnant mothers in rural Kenya. It involved 220 mothers with depression who were between 16 and 26 weeks pregnant. The goal was to see if this accessible, community-based approach could ease mothers' symptoms and lead to better care for themselves and their babies.
