Eye drops could stop a rare cause of blindness

NCT ID NCT02987686

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This early-stage study tested whether infliximab, a drug usually given through a vein, can be safely used as eye drops for sterile corneal melt. This condition causes the clear front part of the eye to thin, which can lead to blindness. Seven adults with this condition received the eye drops for 4 weeks to check for side effects and see if the treatment helps.
