First seen Jan 10, 2026 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 21 times
Summary
This study looked at whether brushing the teeth of children in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) with a special mouthwash (chlorhexidine) could lower their risk of getting a lung infection from the breathing machine. The study included 118 children on breathing machines. Researchers compared those who got toothbrushing with chlorhexidine to those who got routine mouth care. The goal was to see if the special mouth care reduced infections and helped children recover faster.
