Hospital study challenges No-Brushing rule for vulnerable cancer patients
NCT ID NCT03879252
Summary
This study tested whether patients with very low blood cell counts from chemotherapy could safely brush their teeth instead of just using mouthwash. Researchers compared tooth brushing against standard mouthwash care in 76 hospitalized patients to see if brushing caused more infections or bleeding. The goal was to determine if brushing could improve patient comfort and sense of well-being without increasing medical risks.
