Computer alerts aim to stop doctors from overprescribing risky painkillers
NCT ID NCT04918355
Summary
This study tested three different computer alert tools designed to help doctors quickly check a state database of controlled medication prescriptions before writing new orders for opioids or sedatives. The goal was to see if these alerts made doctors more likely to check the database and, as a result, reduce the number of risky prescriptions. The study involved over 3,600 healthcare providers and their patients within a large health system.
