Herbal bath may help anal surgery wounds heal faster
NCT ID NCT07562672
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tested whether a daily bath with a traditional Chinese herbal mixture called Tongyangxiao can help surgical wounds heal faster after anal fistula surgery. 115 patients used either the herbal bath or a standard antiseptic bath for 14 days after surgery. Researchers measured wound closure time, pain, and inflammation to see if the herbs made a difference.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Tongyangxiao herbal decoction (a mix of ten Chinese herbs used as a sitz bath)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a natural, low-cost way to help surgical wounds heal faster and with less pain after anal fistula surgery.
What could go wrong
This is a small, completed study with no phase designation. The herbal mixture is complex and not standardized, and results may not apply to people with other health conditions or complex fistulas.
