Herbal formula plus eye injections: a new hope for blocked retinal veins?
NCT ID NCT07718503
First seen Jul 22, 2026 · Last updated Jul 23, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This trial tests whether adding an oral Chinese herbal formula called Tongluo Huayu to standard care (eye injections and laser therapy) can improve vision and reduce retinal swelling in people with retinal vein occlusion. Eighty participants will receive either standard treatment alone or standard treatment plus the herbal formula for one month. Researchers will track changes in retinal thickness and vision over six months to see if the combination works better than standard care alone.

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- a Chinese herbal formula called Tongluo Huayu Formula, given as an oral preparation for one month
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could point toward a new add-on treatment that improves vision and reduces retinal swelling in people with retinal vein occlusion.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage trial with only 80 participants. The herbal formula may cause side effects or interact with other medications, and its benefits over standard care alone remain unproven.
