New study: could dragging pus out of lungs cut hospital time?

NCT ID NCT07247461

First seen Dec 16, 2025 · Last updated May 12, 2026 · Updated 19 times

Summary

This study looks at whether putting a small tube into a lung abscess to drain the pus, along with standard antibiotics, helps people leave the hospital faster than antibiotics alone. About 84 adults with large lung abscesses will be randomly assigned to get either drainage plus antibiotics or just antibiotics. The main goal is to see how many days each group spends in the hospital.
