Diabetes drug tested as potential breakthrough for opioid addiction

Summary
This study is testing whether adding tirzepatide, a medication currently used for diabetes and weight loss, to standard buprenorphine treatment helps people with opioid addiction. Researchers will enroll 310 adults who recently started buprenorphine treatment and randomly assign them to receive either tirzepatide or a placebo injection weekly for six months. The main goals are to see if the combination helps people stay in treatment longer, reduces opioid and other drug use, and improves sleep quality.
