Weight loss drug tested as potential aid to curb heavy drinking

Summary

This study is testing if a weekly injection called tirzepatide, which is approved for weight loss and diabetes, can also help people reduce heavy alcohol use. It will involve 42 adults who have alcohol use disorder and are overweight or obese. Participants will receive either the real medication or a placebo (inactive shot) for 8 weeks to see if it helps them drink less and improves their health.
