New hope for stroke patients: safer blood thinner may prevent second blockage

NCT ID NCT05225961

First seen Feb 19, 2026 · Last updated May 13, 2026 · Updated 9 times

Summary

This study tested two blood thinners, tirofiban and aspirin, in 240 stroke patients who also had a blocked or narrowed neck artery. The goal was to see which drug better prevents the artery from re-blocking after a procedure to open it, while also checking for bleeding risks. Results could help doctors choose the safest and most effective anti-clotting treatment right after a stroke.
