New drug combo aims to boost stroke recovery

NCT ID NCT07026318

First seen Jun 26, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 26, 2026

Summary

This study tests whether adding the drug tirofiban after a standard clot-removal procedure helps people recover better from a severe stroke caused by a blocked artery. About 716 adults will receive either tirofiban or a placebo right after the procedure. The main goal is to see if more people achieve functional independence (able to care for themselves) three months later, while also checking for any increased risk of brain bleeding.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only โ€” not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
Tirofiban
What this could lead to
If successful, adding tirofiban after clot removal could become a standard treatment to improve functional recovery after a stroke.
What could go wrong
This is a mid-stage trial, so results are not yet proven. The main risk is increased bleeding in the brain, which the study is carefully monitoring.
