New stent strategy aims to reduce brain fog risk after liver shunt procedure
NCT ID NCT07253389
Summary
This study is testing if using a slightly narrower stent during a common liver procedure can reduce a serious side effect called hepatic encephalopathy (brain fog) without increasing the risk of bleeding again. It will involve 170 adults with cirrhosis who have had severe bleeding from swollen veins in their esophagus or stomach. Participants will be randomly assigned to receive either the standard stent size or a narrower version during their Transjugular Intrahepatic Portosystemic Shunt (TIPS) procedure.
