First seen Feb 06, 2026 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 16 times
Summary
This study tests a new approach to reduce tinnitus loudness and related distress by pairing gentle nerve stimulation with a sound-based attention task. One hundred adults with chronic tonal tinnitus will be randomly assigned to receive real or sham stimulation combined with active or passive listening over eight sessions in four weeks. The goal is to see if this non-invasive method can retrain the brain to turn down the phantom ringing.
