First seen May 03, 2026 · Last updated May 14, 2026 · Updated 3 times
Summary
This study tested whether a numbing injection (nerve block) in the neck before thyroid surgery could lower pain and the need for strong painkillers. Forty adults having thyroid surgery were split into two groups: one got the nerve block plus general anesthesia, the other got only general anesthesia. Researchers measured pain scores and how much opioid medication each group needed after surgery.
