Heart surgery patients get thyroid boost to cut complications

NCT ID NCT07380854

Summary

This study is testing whether giving a common thyroid medication (levothyroxine) to patients with a mild thyroid condition can reduce serious heart complications after bypass surgery. About 338 adults scheduled for bypass surgery will be randomly assigned to either receive the thyroid medication or not, starting the day before their operation. Researchers will track participants for up to five years to see if the medication helps prevent heart attacks, strokes, or other major heart-related events.
