Could a common thyroid pill be the missing link in fighting obesity?

NCT ID NCT07332273

Summary

This study is testing whether adding a low dose of a thyroid medication (levothyroxine) to a structured diet and exercise plan helps adults with obesity lose more weight and prevent regain. The trial will include 286 adults with obesity who have slightly higher-than-average thyroid hormone levels. Participants will follow a Mediterranean diet and exercise plan for 9 months, with half also taking the thyroid pill and half taking a placebo pill.
