Study tests if watching small thyroid cancers is safer than surgery

NCT ID NCT04624477

Summary

This study follows 450 adults with very small, low-risk thyroid cancers to see which approach works better long-term: active surveillance (close monitoring without immediate surgery) or immediate thyroid removal surgery. Researchers track patients for up to 10 years to see how often each approach successfully manages the cancer according to patients' goals. The study also measures quality of life, anxiety, and treatment complications to help future patients make informed decisions.
