UK's first 'Sand Grain' procedure aims to shrink thyroid lumps without major surgery

NCT ID NCT07046546

Summary

This study is testing a new, minimally invasive procedure called thyroid artery embolization (TAE) for people with large, non-cancerous thyroid lumps that cause neck pressure, cosmetic concerns, or overactive thyroid. The procedure blocks tiny arteries feeding the thyroid using particles like fine sand, aiming to shrink the gland and relieve symptoms. This is the first UK safety assessment of TAE, recruiting 10 patients to gather initial data before a larger future trial.
