New thumb joint implant tested for lasting pain relief

NCT ID NCT07178223

Summary

This study aims to see if replacing the arthritic thumb joint with an artificial implant provides better long-term pain relief and hand strength than the standard surgery that removes bone. Researchers will follow 90 patients who get the new joint replacement and compare their results over 10 years to 90 patients from a previous study who had the older surgeries. The main goal is to find out which option helps people use their hands with less pain a decade after the operation.
