New thumb joint implant tested against standard surgery

NCT ID NCT07178223

Summary

This study is testing whether replacing the arthritic thumb joint with an artificial implant provides better long-term pain relief and hand strength than the current standard surgery that removes bone. Researchers will follow 90 people receiving the new joint replacement and compare their results over 10 years to 90 people who previously had the older surgeries. The goal is to see if the implant helps people use their hands with less pain for a longer time.
