Glowing dye in surgery could stop dangerous throat leaks

NCT ID NCT06831149

Summary

This study is testing if a special imaging technique used during throat surgery can reduce a common and serious complication called a pharyngocutaneous fistula (a leak in the throat). During surgery, doctors will inject a safe dye and use a special camera to see which throat tissues have poor blood flow, then remove those risky tissues. The goal is to see if this approach lowers leak rates in the first month after surgery for patients with recurrent throat cancer.
