Simple moves may ease stubborn neck pain
NCT ID NCT06991140
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tested whether adding thoracic (upper back) mobilization exercises to a standard core stabilization program helps people with chronic non-specific neck pain more than core exercises alone. Fifty-four sedentary adults with neck pain lasting at least 3 months did supervised exercises 3 days a week for 6 weeks. Researchers measured pain severity and disability before and after the program.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Thoracic mobilization exercises (active self-mobilization, foam roller, stretching, and postural exercises) added to core stabilization exercises
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could point toward a more effective exercise program for reducing chronic neck pain and improving function.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, completed trial with 54 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The intervention is exercise-based, so benefits depend on adherence and may not be dramatic.
