Hidden vitamin deficiency plagues hospitalized veterans, study finds
NCT ID NCT05480943
Summary
This study aimed to find out how common thiamine (vitamin B1) deficiency is in veterans who are sick enough to be hospitalized and who don't drink heavily. Researchers tested 206 veterans to measure their thiamine levels and check for symptoms like fatigue, weakness, and confusion. They also wanted to see if inflammation or poor diet increased the risk of deficiency and to better define what blood levels should be considered too low.
