Summary

This study tested a specialized talk therapy program for people taking buprenorphine for opioid use disorder who also have chronic pain and depression. The program, called TOPPS, used counseling techniques to help people manage pain and low mood without turning back to substance use. Researchers compared it to general health education in 163 participants to see if it better improved pain, depression, and helped people stay in their recovery treatment over a 12-month period.
