New drug aims to starve prostate cancer by blocking testosterone

NCT ID NCT07457164

First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This phase 2 trial tests a drug called teverelix DP in 40 men with advanced prostate cancer. The drug works by blocking a hormone that tells the body to make testosterone, which can fuel cancer growth. The goal is to see if a specific dosing schedule can safely lower testosterone to very low levels. Results will help decide if a larger phase 3 study should be done.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Teverelix DP (a hormone-blocking drug)

What this could lead to

If successful, this could support a larger Phase 3 study and potentially offer a new treatment option for advanced prostate cancer patients at high cardiovascular risk.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-phase trial with only 40 participants. It may not show the desired testosterone suppression, and safety issues could arise. Results may not apply to all patients.
