Summary
This study tested a method to control diseases like dengue, Zika, and chikungunya by releasing specially treated male mosquitoes. These males carry a natural bacteria and are lightly irradiated so they can't produce offspring, which helps shrink the mosquito population. Over 15,000 people in Merida, Mexico took part. The goal was to see if this approach could reduce disease cases and mosquito numbers in real-world conditions.
