Mayo clinic tests if common heart drugs can shield cancer patients from Chemo's hidden heart risk

NCT ID NCT07456852

Summary

This study aims to see if certain blood pressure medications can protect the heart's blood vessels from damage caused by common chemotherapy drugs for stomach and colon cancers. Researchers will monitor 60 patients with gastrointestinal cancer who are receiving drugs like 5-FU or capecitabine, which can sometimes cause chest pain or heart issues. The study will first measure how often these patients develop blood vessel problems, then test if medications like isosorbide mononitrate or diltiazem can prevent or reduce these harmful side effects.
