Zapping away pain? scientists test if electrical acupoints change Brain's pain signals

NCT ID NCT07267052

Summary

This study aims to understand how a mild electrical stimulation, similar to a TENS unit, applied to specific acupoints on the hand affects the brain's processing of pain. Researchers will measure brain wave responses to a mild, brief pain stimulus in 35 healthy adult volunteers before and after the electrical stimulation. The goal is to see if this stimulation changes how the brain registers pain, which could help explain how some pain relief methods work.
