New stent could ease bladder troubles for spinal cord patients
NCT ID NCT02323243
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tested a temporary urethral stent in 9 men with spinal cord injuries who had trouble emptying their bladders. The stent is placed under local anesthesia to keep the urinary channel open. The goal was to see if patients felt their voiding improved, and to check for problems like stent movement or infections.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
temporary urethral stent (Allium Bulbar Urethral Stent)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a less invasive, reversible option for people with spinal cord injuries who cannot manage their bladder with standard treatments.
What could go wrong
This was a very small early-phase study with only 9 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The stent could move, cause infections, or need removal.
