Can video calls replace the physio clinic for shoulder pain?
NCT ID NCT07321444
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tested whether doing physiotherapy exercises at home via video call works as well as going to a clinic for people with rotator cuff shoulder injuries. 68 adults were split into two groups: one did supervised exercises by videoconference, the other in person. Researchers checked shoulder function, pain, quality of life, and satisfaction at 2, 5, and 8 weeks. The goal is to see if telerehabilitation is a good alternative to traditional physiotherapy.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
telerehabilitation (physiotherapy via videoconference)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that remote physiotherapy is as effective as in-person sessions for shoulder injuries, offering a convenient and accessible treatment option.
What could go wrong
This is a small, completed trial with 68 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The intervention is not a cure and only aims to ease symptoms and improve function.
