Can a smart home monitoring system get you out of the hospital faster after gut surgery?

NCT ID NCT07186738

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests a telemonitoring platform called EPOCA for patients who have had colorectal or bariatric surgery. The platform uses connected devices and a care team to monitor patients at home, aiming to allow earlier hospital discharge without increasing readmissions. Researchers will enroll 250 adults at Nantes University Hospital and track how many days they spend back in the hospital within 90 days after surgery.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
EPOCA telemonitoring platform (device and care coordination service)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that remote monitoring safely allows earlier hospital discharge after digestive surgery, reducing costs and improving patient comfort.
What could go wrong
This is a small, single-center feasibility study, not a large trial. The platform may not reduce readmissions or complications, and results may not apply to other hospitals.
